8. Blue Atoms

Another summer’s here
Wasting time, I’m always in my way
Please can you move on
Haven’t you already done enough?
But I knew, it’s no good, this way there is no way through
I feel it catch every time I speak
Just as well there’s no one here but me
And it came up
Unexpected
Headed down
When the seat ejected
Whistles so loud
In the dead calm
Guess I needed something new to worry about
I thought I
Was so sure
If it’s me, it can only go wrong
This is no different
But I hesitate
When I look at you and you don’t look away
Maybe I’m being dramatic
I wouldn’t have bet, I had a mind to change
Can’t say I had much fun
I was pretty close to giving up
Hell if I knew, I’d have followed, this road to the end right through
Way past the flowers and the biting weeds
Out over the cliffs and across the sea
And it came up
Unexpected
A notion that I’d rejected
Whistles so loud
In the dead calm
Fireworks come up to meet us
With the warmth
From your hands
And your head on my shoulder I understand
Every atom
Falls into place
In the shades of blue, in the silence
